LOOK UPSTAIRS | SPEAKER
Melbourne International
Design Week 2014
Melbourne | Australia
Meeting, listening to, and really 'hearing' John Bielenberg at LOOK UPSTAIRS, (landmark event of Melbourne Design Week 2014), was a powerful experience. Most designers love what they do, but being reminded of the power, responsibility and opportunity we have to make change and influence our communities and environments, big or small, was truly inspirational. A much needed message in our incredibly fast paced, demanding and competitive industry, and positively challenging the ideals of today's 'creative culture'.
BRILLIANT WORK.
"It’s pretty simple. We believe in living the kind of day in which each and every one of our actions is a positive contribution to the planet and all of the creatures on it" - www.common.is
MICHELANGELO'S
ORIGINALS DRAWINGS
Florence | Italy
Hidden in the basement of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence, Italy, are approximately fifty original sketches by Michelangelo, originally discovered by Paolo dal Poggetto in 1975.
It was a breathtaking experience to view these drawings with my colleague, Lorenzo Casamenti, who was part of the team of restorers who personally recovered these images, carefully removing the layers of paint to uncover these remarkable drawings.
BIENNALE DI MONTONE
Umbria | Italy
It was a pleasure to exhibit my recent project, MOMENTI, in the Biennale di Montone, Umbria, alongside artist from around the world.
MOMENTI | MOMENTS
In a time when technology and virtual communication has become an integral part of many cultures, my belief is that it can never replace actual human interaction and physical contact.
My collection of images represent the moments in life that I value most, real-life, personal interaction and connection.

PALAZZO STROZZI
Florence | Italy
My recent visit to La Strozzina, to see Spanish artists Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Juan Gris, Maria Blanchard and Julio González, was of course inspiring, however my personal highlight was seeing the freehand line drawings and sketches which reveal the thought and development process behind some of the most celebrated masterpieces of Spanish Modernity.

OUT OF BALANCE
CRITIQUE OF THE PRESENT. Information Design after Otto Neurath
Collaboration:
Justin Mallia (Architect)
Amy Vomiero (Graphic Designer)
The Topic:
'Societal processes are presently emerging that make a balancing of social inequalities ever more unlikely and that pose a serious danger that society will drift apart, both on the global and national level and on the regional and local level.
People are born into socio-spatial circumstances. Their chances in life vary in the extreme because of this “randomness”. In the interest of social integration and in accordance with democracy’s postulate of equality, modern societies embody the promise of an equalization of living circumstances. This is a guarantee for the political stability of a community. So it is not only permitted, but clearly necessary to ask about the fulfillment of this political desideratum. That means to ask what social reality actually looks like; to ask about the balance of a 30-year phase of neoliberal economy on a global level; to ask what effects deregulation and the privatization of state tasks and the restructuring of the social systems in Europe have had; and to ask how the unleashing of the global financial industry affects above all the economically weak.'

At the beginning of my career, I was lucky enough to be mentored by Creative Director Tim Piper. This is one of his award winning campaigns, which, almost 10 years later, is still one of my favourites - and the message is as relevant as ever.

ROAD TRIPPING WITH GALLO
Barcelona + Costa Brava | Spain
Road-tripping through Southern Spain with Argentinian Artist “Gallo”, was an adventure not unlike his artwork… unique, colourful, courageous, unpredictable, intense, bold and beautiful.
Born and living in Buenos Aires, Gallo is an inspirational soul, who through his artwork, reveals his unique energy, creativity and free-mind. His self-taught technique, combined with his strong personal impressions and emotions, results in original artworks and authentic expression.
At 16 years old (1986) Gallo created “Nosepick”, one of the first skate t-shirts brands in Argentina, which after two years, became one of the most well known on the skate scene. This unique story which blends art and industry, is indicative of Gallo’s nature, no prejudgments or boundaries, shining with great vitality.

Where better to watch this than on a eleven hour flight... where you tend to ponder the meaning of life anyway. Beautifully minimal, honest and confronting observations into the life of a hollywood actor and father... and what really matters in the end.

DAMN GOOD ADVICE
by George Lois
Yep, we've all heard this in one way or another...
Joe Baum orders a Bloody Mary from the bartender.
"Is this the best Bloody Mary you can make?”
"Yes, Mr. Baum," the Bartender answered with assurance.
"Taste it," Baum ordered.
The bartender sipped and reflected.
"It’s delicious." he decided.
"Can you make a better one?” asked Baum. The bartender mixed a new Bloody Mary.
"Now taste this one and tell me what you think," said Baum.
The bartender took a sip.
"This is very good, Mr. Baum. It’s perfect!”
"Then why the f&%k didn’t you make
it that way in the first place?"
barked the great Joe Baum.
IRON SKY | PAOLO NUTINI

Iron Sky, the definite highlight at singer / songwriter Paolo Nutini's live concert in Milano. BELLISSIMO!
"Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men. You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate. Only the unloved hate. The unloved and the unnatural soldiers, don't fight for slavery. Fight for liberty"
- Charlie Chaplin
